The Computer Aided Art Studio
The Computer Aided Art Studio provides facilities and courses for graduates and undergraduates of the Canberra
School of Art Workshops to undertake computer studies as part of their program of study.
CAAS integrates digital
technology into the school's specialised Workshop
programs by complementing traditional techniques and introducing new practices across all disciplines.
Computer Studies
Students and staff at CSA can access the facilities of the CAAS Lab and the ITA Mac Lab through CAAS led workshops, one
to one tutoring and 'open classes' or undertaking individual research projects. CAAS staff provide conceptual and
aesthetic support as well as expertise in areas such as: transferring 2 dimensional computer graphics/drawings to lithographic stone, etching plates
and screen prints; imaging digital photographs to film; creating animation, interactive multimedia work and CD Roms
and 3 dimensional prototyping (Stereolithography) and laser cutting. In addition students are introduced the use of
electronic networks (Internet) in order to publish and discuss work and connect with artists locally and
internationally. Instruction is provided for both the Computer Aided Art Studio Laboratory and the Institute of the
Arts Macintosh Laboratory.
Staff and visiting artists
CAAS Artists All staff members are practising artists with national and international reputations who actively maintain
contacts with other Institutions and practitioners. The expertise of the teaching staff is complemented by the
Studio's artist-in-residence and graduate-in-residence program.
These artists interact with students and staff by
offering workshops, individual tutorials and showing their work through exhibitions.
